Eastbourne & Sussex for Christmas

East Sussex is an incredible place to visit anytime of the year. The spring is mild with vibrant flowers everywhere. When it’s not raining hard the hiking is enjoyable in the Spring, gentle mist cloaks it’s walkers in hydrotherapy. Summer is the best time for outdoor activities and everyone else agrees, making it a crowded area to visit. Parking and busy streets are some of the challenges in the summer. Wine tasting, long walks and swimming in the sea are the perks. Autumn is a lovely time in the region, the cool weather and colorful sunsets make this time of the year perfect for walking. Winter is mild, not too cold, but enough to need a thick coat. The rain is quite frequent and on occasion there is snow covering the lovely pebble beaches. My favorite time of the year to be in Eastbourne is Christmas time. The little city alongside the coast between Brighton and Hastings delivers a charming Christmas celebration. There is a Christmas market, fantastic lights and really cute Christmas activities: one of them the secret artisan shopping experience. The warm community atmosphere in Eastbourne brings everyone together for the festivities.

Some of my favorites:

Birling Gap and the Seven Sisters is my favorite walking trails in the East Sussex region. I like how the beautiful Seven Sisters cliffs shine against the sea. For a shorter walk a bus will deliver pedestrians to Beachy Head. There are many great restaurants and cafés in Eastbourne. My favorite Indian is Seafront Tandoori, best fish and chips The Crown & Anchor, cutest restaurant and pub is The Pilot Inn, best Christmas decorations The Marine, Best view, but make a reservation, otherwise you have to sit in the pub area Vintage Inn The Beachy Head. The best afternoon tea The Grand Hotel Eastbourne. The best full English breakfast By the Sea and the most creative B&B Belle Tout Lighthouse.

The Christmas market with its little cabins serving Mulled wine, hot chocolate and artisan gifts are lined up along the pedestrian walk from the train station toward the beach. The warm lights illuminate the damp streets. Autumn nights in Eastbourne are often soggy, but the bright sun shining days make up for the cold evenings.

There are many Christmas themed special places to explore. The inside of the pub Marine is covered in decorations from ceiling down, the place is known for its decorations and delicious Sunday roast. The Grand Hotel has afternoon tea and a restaurant with a reputation for excellence, I think they still have a Michelin Star, their Christmas décor is beautiful. Along the pedestrian streets the shops and stores are all stocked up with lots to see and buy.
