The current appearance of the fortress dates back to the years when the Venetians liberated the area. July is among the most special months to visit Klis Fortress, as every year the re-creation of the battle against the Ottoman army is reenacted with more than 250 members.

Besides the truly spectacular views of the entire city of Split, Klis Fortress is a place to visit if you want to take a step back in time and learn more about the Croatian history and heritage. Working from 9AM until 7PM, visitors will have plenty of time to explore both the inside and outside of the fortress and learn interesting, never told stories and legends for Klis. The ticket prices are 60 KN (around 8€) for adults and 30 KN (around 4€) for children. Not only does the ticket include access to the fortress, but also admission to the interpretation center and the ethno village Family Estate, Stella Croatica. The best part is that regardless if you are planning on renting a car or counting on the public transportation system, you can easily reach the fortifications. Just 15 km away from Split, visitors can choose between driving, which would only take about 20 minutes. Another option is taking bus 22 if you are planning a weekend visit to the fortress. Take the bus from the stop in front of the Croatian National Theatre and enjoy the scenic journey. If you have decided to skip the crowds and you would like to visit during the more quiet and peaceful week days, you can choose between buses 34, 35 and 36. Starting point for each one of them is the stop at the central bus station at Sukoišanska street, whereas the final destination is the small Caffe Bar Oprah, which is just a short walk away from Klis Fortress. Getting a taxi is not advisable as it would be a lot more expensive than getting the bus and it would still take about the same time.
