Vuglec Breg is a Northwestern Croatian winery, farm to table restaurant, and guest house. Located about an hour northwest of the capital city Zagreb, in the western Zagorje Krapina area a charming hotel with an ecological theme, incredible views, adorable animals, fantastic food, and wines to taste, can be found. Visitors will discover Vuglec for a rural getaway, in the wine hills outside of the town of Krapina.
Vuglec Breg is a charming ecological farm to table restaurant with a lovely winery and historic houses converted into cozy rentals for rooms, or apartments to stay in. Some of them are overlooking the beautiful vineyards. We came in the winter for a weekend away and found the stay delightful. While visiting we enjoyed eating several of their local specialties, the štrukli soup was phenomenal, dried meats delicious, but our favorite was the duck dish. We spent our first evening eating too much and drinking lots of wine.
The accommodation was charming, we had a view of the whole valley, so pretty from our window, or the outside balcony. Aloisa my puppy was enamored by the birds singing outside.
Vuglec Breg wine cellar was established in 2005 as an important feature of their rural tourism offer. The vineyard’s vines were planted on the southern slopes of the hill, where the remains of an abandoned vineyards used to stand. In 2005 the family planted 16,000 new, high-quality grapevines. Their new vineyard occupies an area of about 4 hectares.
They keep the centuries old tradition of vine growing and winemaking with an aim to invest a lot of work and devotion into achieving the highest quality wines while highlighting their uniqueness in flavor and character.
Tasting their wine can be done in the cellar, or their restaurant for a fantastic view. Chardonnay, Rhein Riesling, Graševina, Sauvignon, Yellow Muscat, Silvaner wine, Pinot Noir, Blaufrankish and Cabernet are all on made onsite.
Prirodno Pjenušavo vino is their natural sparkling wine, it’s a collaboration with Bodren Winery. That is their sparkling wine Jasminka, named by their oenologist Jasminka. Made traditionally this sparkling wine is 50% Chardonnay with a blend of Welschriesling, Riesling and Sylvaner then aged for around four years. The warm and rich colors of old gold and beautiful, slow pearls. The aromas are attractive oxidative notes, very harmonious aromas of dried fig and dates fill the senses through the drink and after every sip. A very complex demi sec that’s second in sugar on the classic champagne scale, sumptuous and invigorating for the tastebuds, while freshness carries the sweetness.
The weekend stay with Vuglec was perfect, we enjoyed the breakfast which is served buffet style accompanied by fresh eggs brought to the table the way we liked them. It was a nice getaway; I would recommend visiting for a couple days for exploring the area and properly enjoying the relaxing atmosphere. Subscribe for more Croatian travels, have a lovely day.
